In this module we will continue surfing and do some work on reading and summarizing.

By now you should be getting to know your partner. Your first mission in this module is to find an article in one of the world's newspapers or magazines that you know will really interest your on-line partner and send it to them. Make sure you keep (and print out) a copy for yourself. You can find all the newspapers on line here. ecola

When you receive the article from your partner, read it! and then write a summary of the article (about 200 words) Send this summary back to your partner - make comments on each others work until you are both pleased with the master piece. Add a line saying if your partner chose an article which really interested you and publish your summary on our pages

 

Teacher trainees and university students have an extra assignment :Go to Crayon and make a special newspaper for your partner -

Just follow the instructions there. When you have finished send me the URL of the newspaper and of course send it to your partner.

Preservcie teachers:-write a lesson plan for using this great source of world newspaper for an intermediate class. Send this to me. Then choose just one exercise that can be completed by an individual student in about half an hour and send it your partner. Post the finished lesson plans here

  • Now is fun time! Do all the exercises on this page OPPtical Illusion, Online Creatively ., take your time. Some of the sites are a bit stupid, but others are really great.

    Now what do you think is a good site. Can you go back to your groups in module 2 and form points for how to evaluate a site..

    Put your conclusions on the webfolio

    Teacher trainees please pay particular attention to the site called "crayon". How can it be used for teaching EFL/ESL? Join our discussion group to brainstorm together.

    After completing this module you should:

    • have practiced scanning newspapers.
    • have practiced writing a sumary.
    • have used e-mail and process writing to improve on your summary.
    • for trainees- have prepared a lesson using newspapers on-line and started to workout criteria for integrating the Internet as a teacher.
    • have experienced different Internet sites and evaluated them.

    Teacher trainees, please write me a quick note analysing this unit:

    • As teachers can you see yourselves incorporating the Internet? explain what and how.
    • How helpful was the discussion?
    • How helpful was it for you to first be the student and then the teacher?
