 To my soulmate Maria
Last year I traveled to Washington,
There was a yellow-red fall.
I ran through the rain and the drops with my tears
Streamed down - I was so alone.

And now I run throug the Internet
I don't feel alone any more.
There is my new friend in Washington
And we have so much in common.

Maria likes drawing and likes plays:
She's and actress and also an artist.
I'm near my computer reading her mail
And there I am leaving my hear in.

Culture is my window to the world,

For me to look out

And for you to look in.

James Leigh

Dear Maria!

You and I both are interested in amazingly the same things, which are fine art, literature and theatre. So, I call you my soulmate.

For our cultural project I have chosen “American theatre”. This is a pretty vast theme and it isn’t possible to cover it in a small webtour, therefore, I would like to invite you to an enjoyable theatrical journey, which I hope will attract your attention as an actress and a theatre person.

The first stations of our tour, which we visit for getting general background and cultural awareness, will be the following sites:

www.georgetown.edu/murphy/netsearch/
americanhtml
This site is maintained by Don Murphy, Senior Professor of theatre and art in Georgetown University, Washington and provides a broad spectrum of information on American theatre history, Musical theatre, Children theatre, Broadway theatres, etc.

www.americantheaterweb.com This site can be interesting for its daily updated theatre news, rich information about theatres and shows by US region.

www.theatre.com/Washington Maria, you are studying in Washington and I think theatrical life of this city can be important for you.

Now after getting general information on the subject of our webtour we can stop in www.tonys.org – the official site of American theatre wings and visit year winner list in various nominees of American Theatre Wing's Tony. Here our rapt attention attracts the playwrite of Tom Stoppard “The Real Thing”, which has won in a few nominees such as Best performance by a leading actress in a play – Jennifer Ehle, Best actor in a play, Best direction of a play, Best costume design. The play may awake our interest in problems it enlightens. Jennifer Ehle, daughter of Rosemary Harris – a stage veteran, has created a beautiful intelligent, attractive and sensitive character. Here we can look at the actress’s pictures in this play and in her other works as well.

Some lines from the site below and the links of nominees can give us, Maria, very first impressions about this play, which can be considered an outstanding event of American theatrical life.

in “The Real Thing”

The Real Thing may be the most frequently revived Tom Stoppard play in American theatres. The current Broadway revival of The Real Thing is a London import. David Leaveaux's new version of Stoppard's 1982 play began at the Donmar Warehouse and is led by Stephen Dillane, Jennifer Ehle, Nigel Lindsay, and Sarah Woodward. It is the first Broadway production of this Stoppard staple with an all-British cast.

A play about love, commitment and adultery, The Real Thing is Stoppard's most accessible and emotionally engaging drama. It explodes much of the received wisdom about Stoppard, who is often described as coldly intellectual. It is also Stoppard's most autobiographical work.

Unfortunately, our webtour is finishing. I hope, Maria, you have enjoyed it. But theatre has no
end. It lives in our hearts and as a cultural
phenomenon helps us to look in and out more
and more windows of our world
