         Purpose:


         J-PEN is the discussion list for Jewish journalism and
         journalists, though it is open to all.  Jewish reporters,
         editors and public information officers can gather here to
         discuss vital issues of the day, trade shop talk and advise
         each other on technical and not-so-technical issues.

         J-PEN aims to include the broader community of Jewish
         journalism (e.g., Jewish media), secular journalists who are
         Jewish, Jewish organization officials involved in media
         relations, and religion editors who write about Jews and
         Judaism.

         Press releases for the Jewish media are welcome, provided
         they follow standard formats for news releases and include
         contact information for verification. Posters of media
         releases, press advisories, etc., should be aware that J-PEN
         has _INTERNATIONAL_ distribution, so items of purely local or
         communal interest should not be posted.
